Sand Sculpture Art & Music Fest: AUG 13-14Thursday August 11, 2016
Enjoy the last of the summertime fun at this cool festival. The 84th Annual Long Beach Sand Sculpture Competition features an impressive centerpiece sculpture built from a dream team of professionals creating an impressive work of art from sand for your enjoyment. It’s only a short drive from Brighton. The sculpture will be dramatically lit for incredible nighttime viewing. Try your creative design skills and build your own sculpture. There will also be live music, vendor booths of arts & crafts and food tents. The event will include an impressive kid’s zone, where kids can build their own sandcastles (with parent supervision), giant slides, jumpers, climbing wall, parachute drop, hamster balls and more. NATIONAL LIFEGUARD CHAMPIONSHIPS @ Hermosa BeachTuesday August 2, 2016
From August 10-13, experience the best of the best at the National Lifeguard Championships. The event will be held at Hermosa Beach Pier and is free for the public. More than 1,000 lifeguards and junior lifeguards from across the country competing for individual and team honors, nationwide from more than 50 chapters will compete for titles in individual and team competitions. Professional Lifeguards ranging in age from 16 to 80 and Junior Lifeguards from ages nine to 15 will compete in water and beach course events that challenge their lifesaving skills in myriad events from surf swims to beach runs; paddleboards to surf boats. A few of the highlights include the Landline Rescue Relay, Ironman and Ironwoman events, Beach Flags and the 4×100 relay, a shuttle-run-style competition that is called “the fastest event on sand.”
City Park Fun for the kidsTuesday July 26, 2016
The City of Torrance Community Services Department invites the public to stop in for fun at the parks this summer. Recreation staff will be leading and supervising activities and crafts at no cost. Young children should be accompanied by an adult as this is a drop-in program where children can come and go as they please. The Summer Parks Program will operate through Friday, August 26, 2016 from noon to 4 p.m. at the following parks: Alta Loma Park, Paradise Park, Columbia Park, Pueblo Park, Delthorne Park, Sur La Brea Park, El Retiro Park, Torrance Park, Hickory Park, Victor Park, La Romeria Park, and Walteria Park. BRIGHT IDEA FOR THE 4TH: Torrance 4th of July Fireworks ShowWednesday June 29, 2016
Summer is here and what better way to celebrate than to check out the fireworks. The Torrance 4th of July Fireworks Show has returned. The show starts at 7pm and will take place at the Civic Center area. The internal Civic Center parking lot will be closed for the launching of the fireworks, however surrounding parking lots will be open for the general public to view the show. In addition, the Toyota Sports Complex and a portion of the Courthouse parking lot will be open for public viewing. Seating will be available at Toyota Sports Complex and the Los Angeles County Courthouse Parking Lot (Maple Avenue, north of Torrance Blvd.) Tickets (free) will be required for the Toyota Sports Complex viewing area.
